Munkhtsetseg Jalkhaajav

Munkhtsetseg Jalkhaajav (b. 1967, Ulaanbaatar) represented Mongolia at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015 — the country's first national pavilion. She graduated from the Fine Art College in Ulaanbaatar in 1987 and the Academy of Fine Art and Theatre in Minsk in 1993.

Her figurative and abstract works centre on the female figure — cutters, idols, women in transformation — and have been exhibited from Bonn and Tokyo to San Francisco and the Beijing Biennale. The collection holds a group of her early paintings from the mid-2000s, acquired a decade before her Venice presentation.
