Bayarbaatar Selee

Bayarbaatar Selee (b. 1964, Ulaanbaatar) trained at the College of Fine Arts in Ulaanbaatar in 1987 and completed his studies at the Surikov Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow in 1998 — one of the most demanding academic trainings a painter of his generation could receive. He began at the UMA and has taught at the Institute of Fine Arts in Ulaanbaatar.

His realist canvases hold the horse cultures of Mongolia — races, riders, naadam, herding life on the ice and steppe — with academic command and warmth. After one-man shows in Poland, Holland and Moscow through the 1990s, his work travelled the international fair circuit from Dubai and Beijing to New York, Montreal and London, including the “Mongolian Kingdom of the Horse” exhibition at the Arndean Gallery, and reached American equestrian audiences at Equine Affaire in California and the International Equestrian Festival in Lexington, Kentucky.
